The SBTF 2007 Brain Tumor Research Grants were awarded on Wednesday, January 30, 2008.
Each researcher
gave an inspiring and promising presentation regarding his research. (Click here for photos from the awards ceremony.)
Four Research Grant Awards Were Presented - Totaling $270,000.
- Dr. Yiting Cao, Duke University, on his work with Dr. Jeremy Rich and the Erythropoietin Regulation of Brain Tumor Stem Cells.
- Dr. Charlie Hao, Emory University, on his work of Combination Treatment of GBM with TRAIL and Hsp90 Inhibitors.
- Dr. John Sampson, Duke University, on the effect of CTLA-4 Blockade on Immune Phenotype and Tumor Response in GBM.
- Dr. Erwin Van Meir, Emory University, on a novel anti-angiogenic function for the p14ARF tumor suppressor in glioma.

Previously Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation has
given two research equipment grants to the Laboratory of Molecular
Neuro-Oncology at Emory University and brain tumor research grants
to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and to Duke University.
Our thanks go to those of you who have contributed
individually and those who have participated in SBTF fund raisers
which help make the award of these research grants possible; to the
researchers who are working to find a cure for brain tumor and who
submitted proposals; and also to the members of the SBTF Medical Advisory
Board who reviewed the proposals.
